How do lines and wrinkles treatments work?

Line and wrinkle treatments help reduce the signs of ageing. A natural protein is injected just under your skin to treat the fine lines and wrinkles. The protein used for upper face treatments to reduce fine lines and wrinkles is Botulinum toxin. Naturally produced by the Clostridium Botulinum bacteria in the soil, this is available as Botox®, Azzalure®, Bocouture®, Xeomin®, and Dysport®.

As a prescription-only medication, it must be prescribed for you.

Small injections are carried out at exact points on your upper face. This shouldn’t be painful, but you may notice some slight bumps initially. After injection, these natural proteins then begin softening your fine line and wrinkles. Subsequently, by relaxing the muscles of your upper face, they allow them to improve over time.

What lines and areas can you treat?

Repeated movement of the muscles leads to lines and wrinkles forming over time. If they only appear with movements, it is the best time to act. Once they become visible when your face is at rest, they can be more challenging to treat.

Fine line and wrinkle treatments can provide numerous anti-ageing properties for your upper face. They are highly effective in smoothing your skin and giving you a more youthful appearance. They treat the early signs of ageing, but they are not limited to just the upper face. Please see our other treatment pages for other areas we can treat.

  • Frown lines

The big belly muscle in-between eyebrows work to help close your eyes tight. When pulled they form the typical 11 lines. Given the expression associated and the tired look it can give, they are also called worry lines.

  • Forehead lines

The flat thin sheet of muscle covering your forehead when pulled creates fine lines and wrinkles across the forehead.

  • Crow's feet

The circular muscles around form the eye lines and wrinkles. They help close your eyes shut. When you close your eyes shut or smile you can see the lines starting from the outer part of your eye and going outwards. Crow's feet and smile lines are other names.

When will I see the results?

Although you may see results as early as a few days after the treatment, they typically take 2 weeks before you see the full results.

How long will treatments last?

Once you have had the upper face treatment, your skin will be at its best. However, since Botulinum toxin is a natural substance your body starts to break it down. Your muscles will begin to work as usual gradually your line and wrinkles may return typically around 12 weeks. It’s generally recommended to seek upper face treatments every three months.

What to do and avoid after fine lines and wrinkles treatment?

Remain upright and do not apply any make-up to the areas for 3 hours following your treatment. While upper face treatments arere relatively painless, we recommend putting ice on your face after the procedure to reduce any bruising or swelling. Avoiding any exercise or alcohol for the day can also help. Following your treatment, you should avoid hot temperatures such as steam or sauna.

To reduce the signs of ageing and get the most out of your treatment, you should follow a regular skincare routine to help support your skin’s natural youthfulness and elasticity.
